Chester's Canal

The history of the canal in Chester is complex and the surviving installations bear witness to that history. This walk, led by John Herson on behalf of Chester Civic Trust, will introduce the main features of the Ellesmere and Chester Canal and its successors as they can still be seen today. The walk visits the Northgate Locks and Cutting, Tower Wharf and Taylor’s Boatyard. John will also discuss current visions for making more of Chester’s waterways.

Meet John at the top of Northgate Locks, which can be accessed from Water Tower St for this free two-hour walk along the canal tow path, which does include some steep slopes.

Takes place 27 June at 10:00. This event is FREE.
